Alongside the new iPad Pro, Apple announced an update to the Macbook Air for 2020.
Apple has finally ditched the controversial butterfly keyboard which was found on the previously mode, replacing it with the updated scissor switch keys which was included in the new 16- inch Macbook Pro. It now has the same 1mm key travel and the inverted T arrow keys as the 16-inch model.
There is also a huge performance boost with the new Macbook Air. The processors have been upgraded to the 10th generation Intel Ice Lake processors, which can be configured up to a 1.2GHz quad-core Core i7. Storage has also seen a bump, starting at 256GB. This can be configured all the way up to 2TB.
Pricing of the new Macbook Air is actually less than the previous model. It starts at £999, down from £1099 of the old model. This is for the 1.1GHz dual-core i3 model, with 256GB of storage and 8GB RAM. For educational customers it starts at £899.
Unfortunately there is no touch bar or the advanced stereo speakers from the Macbook Pro 16-inch. The 720p webcam still hasn’t seen an upgrade either. With that being said, this should be the Macbook for most people. It looks like a fantastic all round machine, especially if you don’t do any sort of heavy photo or video editing.
