Samsung’s second foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip

Today at Unpacked in San Fransisco, Samsung announced its second foldable device, the Galaxy Z Flip.

The Galaxy Z Flip features a classic clamshell design as opposed to the foldable tablet like design of the Galaxy Fold. Unlike the plastic screen of the Fold, Samsung claim that the display of the Z Flip is made from an ultra thin glass. This will hopefully make the screen more durable.

The Z Flip features a 6.7″ FHD 2636×1080 display when opened, coupled with a 1.1″ cover display on the front. This can be used for time, notifications, music controls and even taking selfies.

The Z Flip is no slouch in the performance department. Featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+, 8GB RAM, 256GB of storage, dual 12MP rear cameras and a 10MP selfie camera. Whist these may not be on parr with the spec sheet of the S20 series, these are in line with the flagships of 2019.

Other features include 15W fast charging, wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, a side mounted fingerprint scanner and face unlock.

Like the Galaxy Fold, the battery is in two parts, with a combined capacity of 3300mAh. Whist not the biggest battery on the market, it should be enough to last a day of heavy use.

Samsung have a huge push on 5G connectivity, so its disappointing see the Z Flip comes in a 4G only.

The Z Flip comes in at £1300 and will be available on 14th February in 2 different colours in the UK, Mirror Purple and Mirror Black. There will be however a Mirror Gold version in selected markets.
