Sony announce DualShock 4 Back Button Attachment

Customisable controllers have gotten really popular over the last few years. Razer and Astro have their custom PS4 controllers and Microsoft recently released the second version of their Elite Wireless Controller for Xbox and PC. These controllers add additional levels of functionally like extra buttons, replaceable analog sticks, macro controls and more.

While a bit late in the game, Sony have gotten in on the action and announced the Back Button Attachment for their DualShock 4 controller.

The attachment clips into the bottom of the DualShock 4 controller and gives you 2 additional triggers which can be mapped to 16 different buttons for things such as quick reloads, weapon switching and more. There is an OLED display on the rear which shows the button mappings in real time. The buttons are hot-swappable, allowing you change assignments on the fly with space for up to 3 different profiles.

There is a 3.5mm pass through port so you can still use your favourite wired headset for chat when using the Back Button Attachment.

The timing of the accessory is curious as the PS5 is due to drop in late 2020, so fingers crossed that the DualShock 4 will be backwards compatible.

The Back Button Attachment will be available in late January in the US and Canada for $30. UK pricing and availably is to be announced.
